In the Philippines, there are almost 2 million children who are declared orphans*, many of them with one or more siblings to care for. The overwhelming majority of these children cannot afford to feed and provide for themselves, much less provide for their family. Many of these orphans live in rural areas with limited resources and limited ways to make an income or provide for physical needs; however, the image of an orphan in a developing is turning. Many of the orphans now live in urban areas of the Philippines as a result of industrialization and urbanization. But no matter where they live, one thing is common between all the orphans in this country who cannot support themselves or their siblings: They need and deserve our help.
