Statistics of Orphans in the Philippines
General:
UNICEF estimates that there are 1.8 million orphans in the Philippines (Note: UNICEF defines an orphan as “a child who has lost one or both parents due to the death of the parent(s)”; so many who are declared orphans may have a source of food and shelter, such as a relative or the surviving parent) About 130,000 children were orphaned due to AIDs (2009) 150 million children live on the streets in the PI |
The above graph from the 2009 Official Poverty Statistics shows that there is hope. Poverty is beginning its decline and hopefully the number of orphans will as well
